Starting the year 2018 with a bang: some changes in our artist roster!

Arnaud Gys

2017 was without a doubt a special year for Aubergine and the booming jazz scene in general: 10 years of Aubergine, 10 years of LABtrio, 25 years of Aka Moon & the 100th anniversary of jazz. 2018, however, will surely match it! It promises to be a punchy year, full of concerts, an album release and... a new project! We'll start the year with a bang! We made some major changes in our artist roster:

TEUN VERBRUGGEN

As many of you know, drummer Teun Verbruggen went off on an amazing adventure in 2017. He bought a building in Anderlecht and founded 'Walter', a creative space where adventurous music meets fine arts. The past years we supported Teun and his multiple musical projects: a series of RAT Events and tours with The Bureau of Atomic Tourism, Warped Dreamer, Keiji Haino among others. Teun's ambition and productivity grows every day. He runs his own record label RAT Records, leads several internationally praised bands and will open his own stage in Walter in September 2018. About time that a permanent, in-house team supports him on an ongoing basis. It was a pleasure to guide Teun in his career and the Aubergine team is proud to now see him grow into a manager of his own autonomous organisation. We'll surely continue our collaboration on a collegial basis. We wish Teun all the best and want to thank him for all the beautiful moments together.

ANTOINE PIERRE

Antoine Pierre, one of Belgium's most discussed drummers, will soon be part of the Aubergine family. We know him from i.a. TaxiWars, Philip Catherine, Jean-Paul Estiévenart trio, Félix Zurstrassen trio, Toine Thys Quartet & LG Jazz Collective. Aubergine is mainly focused on his personal projects: URBEX is an impressionistic octet, in which Antoine shows himself as a great composer and band leader since 2015. Their debut album was praised by press, programmers as well as the audience. In December, the eight musicians hit the studio to record a second album, ‘Sketches Of Nowhere’, that will be released in May (Igloo Records). In 2017, Antoine's brand new project NextApe with Lorenzo Di Maio (guitar), Jérôme Klein (keys, electronics) and Veronika Harcsa (voice) took off during the Marni Jazz Festival. This quartet is currently working on its first album (expected spring 2019).

Very looking forward to work with him!
