WOMEX, here we come!

It's that time of the year again: WOMEX! Maaike will be present from Wednesday until Sunday and is looking forward meeting you. She will proudly represent two of our newest projects, ESINAM & Echoes Of Zoo.

It’s going hard for ESINAM! After a busy summer with concerts in Ghent, Paris, Brussels, Liège, Antwerp, Leuven & Ostend - including playing as a support act at Selah Sue's and Alsarah & The Nubatones' sold-out concerts - she released her long-expected debut EP on 21 September (Sdban Ultra), celebrating it with a release party at Botanique (Brussels) that same day. One week later, she was invited to play the first act of Moses Sumney’s concert at Botanique. The EP gives you a look into ESINAM's eclectic musical universe. The multi-instrumentalist joggles with traditional instruments like the tama, kalimba and pandeiro, which she superbly loops and blends with the sounds of her flute and her soulful voice, revealing herself as a genuine ‘one-woman band’. Her compositions carry traces from different worlds, geographically, culturally and musically. An artist to watch according to the press worldwide!

And did you already hear about Echoes of Zoo? You should! It's the newest project of Lieven Van Pée, Bart Vervaeck, Falk Schrauwen and Nathan Daems. You may know Nathan Daems from Black Flower (the band that played a lauded showcase at WOMEX last year), Ragini Trio, Dijf Sanders or Myrddin. As a multi-instrumentalist, band leader and composer (also film music) Nathan gets support and respect from people like Gilles Peterson, Gaslamp Killer, Lefto & Kurt Overbergh (Ancienne Belgique, Brussels). The energy and message of his childhood's favorite band Rage Against The Machine inspired him to start Echoes of Zoo, in which he could combine this starting point with melodies, grooves and improvisations that emerge out of his cosmopolitan brain. In January 2019, the band will release its first EP. It will reflect and amplify the animals’ messages of revolt, protest and struggle for survival by translating their animal language into human sounds: instrumental music with a psychedelic message that could be situated somewhere in the twilight between Dans Dans and Black Flower.

Anyway, Maaike will tell you all about it. Gran Canaria, here we come!
